Congratulations Koballa Family

Koballa Family

Adam Koballa was honored at Notre Dame College football game, Saturday August 28, 2010.  Adam is a member of the 2010 NAIA National Championship wrestling team.  Adam received his second championship ring.  The first ring is from his 2009 142 lbs. individual championship. The second ring from the 2010 team national championship. Adam is also a two time St. Peter Chanel state champion. Mr. Koballa helped build the current wrestling room at the high school. Julie is the Chanel team statistician and plays on the varsity fast pitch softball team. Mrs. Koballa is a softball coach at Chanel. Katie plays softball and soccer.

 

The Chanel wrestling community would like to congratulate the Koballa's for all their success.

 

 

Brecksville Finishes 7th at AAU National Duals

The 2010 AAU Junior Olympic National Duals were held in Virginia Beach from August 1-6, 2010.  The event consisted of 18 teams from around the country.  Teams were made up of national teams or club teams from different states.  Brecksville entered a team that was made up of mostly members of Brecksville High School.

At the AAU National Duals you competed against every other team entered, so you wrestled 17 matches over a five day period.  Competing against other national teams and club teams the Brecksville High School team finished with a 12-5 record and ended with a 7th place team finish.
 
Brecksville had thirteen wrestlers compete in the AAU National Duals.  Mitch Baran (130), Kyle Roddy (160), and Marshal Willet (171) finished as Bronze Medallist.  Also finishing with winning records for Brecksville were Tommy Pruchinski (119), Dylan Good (135), Quinton Hiles (145), Mike Marotta (145), Andrew Barr (152), and Trey Rainey (189).
 
Brecksville had four wrestles from different high schools join their team to help fill their line-up for this event.  Aaron Assad (Chanel) finished a perfect 17-0 at 103 to earn a gold medal and All-American honors.  Assad's brother Austin finished with a winning record as a young undersized 98 pounder.  Sean Fee (Lake Catholic) earned a bronze medal finishing 15-2 at 112.   Ryan Cash (Aurora) also finished with a winning record at 125 pounds.

Commentary

I usually don't comment on the web site, but after this season I had too.  Wow! That's what I have to say after the best season I have watched.  It has been some time since I have seen a team of wrestlers put together an undefeated season 17-0, 1st in sectionals, 1st in districts and 3rd in states.  If events would have been different, it could have been a better states finish. Every wrestler in the room works hard.  At times, some of the starters were missing from the line up.  Our backup wrestlers stepped in and did great.  It's amazing what talent we have in the room that I don't get to see because they are not starting.

Mike and Kenny good luck in college.  Thank you for 4 great years.  The rest of the team, see you next season!
